Preparing for GDPR

We will be visiting this topic regularly over the next few newsletters as it is a big issue for businesses. We're not going to give you the full GDPR treatment here - you'll probably be receiving plenty of information on the new Data Protection Regulation from other emails. We're just going to deal with how it affects your website.

In the Autumn we covered how your contact form will be affected on your website. Read the full article on our website.

Here's some simple tips on getting your business prepared

  • Talk about it within your organisation - no matter how large or small you are!
  • Draw a map of the data you hold - where it’s held, where it came from and who can access it.
  • Review your privacy notices - easy to read information for your customers on how you will use their data.
  • Protect the rights of individuals - make sure you have a process for erasing data and to deliver data if an individual requests information.
  • Review why you hold and process data regularly.
  • If you are collecting data from customers make them aware of what you are collecting and give you permission to do so.
  • Acquiring consent from parents and guardians where you are processing data relating to under 18s.
  • Make sure you have a breach procedure in place.
  • Build with privacy in mind - whether its internal processes or  for digital marketing.

Make sure you're taking the best care of your customer’s data!
